Cinque Terre, Italy

According to environmentalists, the province of Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast of Italy is the cleanest land in the whole Mediterranean. Five small towns clinging to cliffs near the sea, gave the name to this resort – Cinque Terre is translated from Italian as “Five Lands”.

Cinque Terre, Italy – the cleanest land in the Mediterranean

Tourists are attracted to the Cinque Terre not only by the incredibly beautiful cliffs hanging over the sea, at the foot of which old buildings are piled up in a picturesque mess. The life of local residents, traditionally engaged in fishing, growing grapes and actively offering “gifts of nature” to tourists, is also interesting. The life of these people was little changed by the “benefits of civilization” who came here, the Ligurian fishermen living in the “Five Lands” have largely preserved the customs and traditions of their ancestors.

Monterosso al Mare (Monterosso al Mare)

The largest and oldest of the five towns of the Cinque Terre, the first mention of it dates back to 1056. Sculptures and architectural monuments remind of the turbulent past of Monterosso – the church of St. Giovanni Battista, the ruins of a medieval castle, the 17th century Capuchin monastery, a giant (14 meters) statue of Neptune. Monterosso is the only one of the five towns in which car traffic is allowed and there is a relatively large sandy beach, in other towns pebble beaches with small sandy areas.

Vernazza

The town is especially loved by tourists for its quiet harbor with clear turquoise water. Near the harbor – the square is a beautiful square with several restaurants and cafes, all the narrow streets of Vernazza, sandwiched between old and new houses, flock to the square. The town is surrounded by an olive grove, fresh olives are abundantly offered to tourists as an addition to fine local wines and liquors.

Corniglia

The town is located at an altitude of about 100 meters above sea level, on a steep cape with excellent visibility. From the train station to hotels and apartments you have to climb a hiking trail. But tourists do not complain – the path is surrounded by lemon trees, twined with vines, a variety of shrubs and other luxurious Mediterranean vegetation.

Manarola

The town is the main cluster of typical tower houses in the Genoese style. Gropp wineries are located a little higher – here you can discover the ancient secrets of the production of the famous Ligurian wines, and, of course, will give them a try. Fortified by wine, you can go to the famous Path of Love – it leads to the neighboring Riomaggiore.

Riomaggiore

The town, somewhat reminiscent of a beehive, is divided by a tunnel into two parts – northern and southern. Directly in the tunnel is an office serving diving enthusiasts. And for lovers of antiquities – an indispensable medieval castle, the church of St. John the Baptist, built in the XIV century, with real masterpieces of church painting and a mechanical organ, and the chapel of Saints Rocco and Sebastian, built in memory of the victims of the plague.

Holidays in the Cinque Terre and other resorts in Italy will surely leave you a vivid and lasting impression. And you can simply forget about the difficulties with applying for a visa – now, an urgent visa to Italy on the day of application has become a completely affordable service, details on the website 101visa.ru. “Five amazing lands” of sunny Italy are waiting for you to visit!
