Okinawa Aquarium, Japan

The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world, opened in 2002, on the Japanese island of Okinawa. The Japanese aquarium is the second largest in the world, after the aquarium in the American city of Atlanta.

The main reservoir of the aquarium holds 7,500 cubic meters of water, it is held by an ultra-transparent acrylic wall 60 centimeters thick and 8.2 by 22.5 meters in size. This acrylic wall is so transparent that it allows visitors to admire the underwater world as if they are on the seabed.

The highlight of the Okinawa Tyuraumi Aquarium is the fact that it is located on a hill with steps leading to the top. Thanks to this interesting architectural solution, the illusion of a gradual plunge into the depths of the ocean is created.

Initially, visitors enter the 3rd floor of the oceanarium, which presents the world of corals and fish living in shallow water.

Then, going down to the second floor, visitors are among the inhabitants of the warm current of Kuroshio, which include stingrays and huge whale sharks.

On the ground floor, at the very bottom of the building, visitors will meet with unusual inhabitants of the darkest depths of the sea. Many of them are usually hidden from human eyes because they live at depths below 200 meters.

All the inhabitants of the Okinawa Tyuraumi Aquarium are found in the waters surrounding the island, and guests have a great opportunity to immerse themselves in the amazing underwater world of the sea around Okinawa.
